Storytime

And this time it is not about my students.

My phone went missing a couple of days ago. I tried calling it while in my room, in my car, in the kitchen, and looked in all the places it usually is when I can't find it.

Then, tonight after dinner I opened to door to the garage to throw something in the recycle bin. Lo, and behold, I heard my phone ring!

"Praise the Lord!" I followed it till it stopped then called it again.

I followed the ringing and yes, it was in the trash can. All the way at the bottom.

After turning the trash can on its side, pulling some trash out, and climbing halfway into it, I recovered the lost phone! Joy asked how I managed getting it in the trash can. Still not sure (how do I manage a lot of the silly things that I do?), but thankfully all it had on it was laundry detergent.

Sometimes we see the Sovereignty of God in big things, like getting a new job; but sometimes it is in the little things like someone calling right as I was walking out to to the garage :)

Oh, and thanks for calling, Kendra!

I've wanted to post this for a while... Last month I was in Maryland for a memorial service for my friend Jeanie's mom (Kathy Bowers). After eight years of battling cancer, the Lord called her home.

I did not have the opportunity to personally know Kathy, but I had seen the fruit of her life through Jeanie, who has been one of my closest friends for the past four years. (the first time we got together we realized that our parents knew each other in college!) It was not only touching, but God glorifying to hear Kathy's friends, sister, husband and children share about her life. At the end of the memorial, they played a video of Kathy from three weeks before she went to be with the Lord. In it, she expressed her gratefulness for her salvation and her desire to see her Savior face to face. I am amazed at her faith, joy, and perseverance. I know that God was glorified through her life and the way that she responded to her sickness - never complaining. Jeanie also set an example in her faith throughout this trial. You can read a tribute that she wrote about her mom for Mothers Day at the GirlTalk blog.
Also, Jeanie's husband Joe wrote about Kathy's response to her cancer on his blog.

I am reminded that my life is not my own, it is not about me. I was made for one person and one place. I have been given the greatest gift- my salvation, and every day that the Lord gives me on earth is for His glory and praise! I pray that I will run this race with my eyes set fixed on the goal - eternal life that Christ has purchased for me, forever singing His praises.

Dan & Joy posted some new pictures on their blog.
Here's a few samples... As you can see, Ava is getting bigger and smiling a lot more :)

She might look like a Burnett, but here is proof that Ava has some Coda blood in her!

"If you want to be a success in life, find out what God is doing and throw yourself into it wholeheartedly."
Arthur Wallis

What is God doing?
He has called us to make and become disciples.

Lord help me to be a more educated, passionate, and loving disciple of Christ and help others to become more wholehearted followers....

Single minded, single purpose. This is not just a piece of the puzzle, but the whole puzzle...all other pieces come together to this end, for this one purpose, the great commission -- the coming of his kingdom!

This post is from notes I took during a message given by Mickey Connolly at CrossWay Community Church in Charlotte. You can listen to the message here...(8/13/06)
